Messages of the Heart
through Hula and Song
Let us bring "The Heart of Aloha" to you through "Talk Story", Song
and the Ancient Storytelling and Heartbeat of the Hawaiian people - Hula.
Forget the “little grass skirt”. The moment you hear Kaleo Wheeler's trained voice soar with a Hawaiian chant or song and experience her sharing Hula, their indigenous dance and ancient form of storytelling, you will be transformed to the natural heartfelt beauty of Hawai’i and the Aloha Spirit. Whether it is in the small intimate setting of a private party/house concert or a larger event with hundreds of people; Kaleo is fully present in the world of the story she is telling. Through the Hula or song she is sharing, she draws the audience in to open their hearts and be part of that story with her. You will find yourself on a journey back in time from ancient to modern Hawai’i. Hula is their living history, telling their myths and legends, stories and values through traditional songs, chants and music accompanied by dance.
Through sharing the uplifting and inspiring stories of Hawai'i, Kaleo gives people a “time out” from all the stress and concerns in today’s world. The audience returns home feeling more relaxed and at peace within themselves.
During the event, audience members are encouraged to participate in learning a hula. if they are too shy or unable to get up, that is no reason why they still can't learn a little hula. The storytelling of hula is done with the arms and hands, and anyone can do that, even sitting. This is always a fun part of the experience and enhances the enjoyment for everyone there, whether they are participating or watching. Kaleo often has several of her advanced students (Haumana) joining her. You will experience a memorable party that your guests will enjoy and will always remember.
Kaleo shares her Storytelling at weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, retirement homes, casual backyard luaus as well as at church, corporate and school events. Her stories, island music and sometimes wearing authentic Hawaiian attire will have you feeling like you are in Hawai’i.
Don’t miss a delightful evening and opportunity to experience this talented musician and storyteller in a live setting, creating a dynamic and enriching experience for everyone there.
"The best part of the Unity of Blue Ridge Christmas Concert was swaying to the sacred Hawaiian dance and listening to Silent Night in Hawaiian that Kaleo Wheeler did. It was so beautiful and sensuous, and so special for her to share with us. It filled my sensory perceptions!"
-Julia Goodloe Byrd, Unity of Blue Ridge, Mills river NC
"When watching Kaleo dance, you experience being totally involved with her as she is fully present in the world of the story she is sharing. She draws the audience in to open their hearts and be a part of that story with her. She is a wonderful example to dance students of all dance forms on how to be a storyteller through their dance. Absolutely beautiful!." - Sekou McMiller, The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater
"Thanks so much for the wonderful performance you gave us for our Luau in the Mountains fundraising event. It was enjoyed by all and it helped us to raise over $2,000 to support Geriatric Medicine for MAHEC."
- Debbie Manley • MAHEC, Mountain Area Health and Education Center, Asheville NC
I gave Valerie Rose, who is a family friend, a Homecoming/Fundraiser and the theme was a Luau. Valerie was in a car accident back in April. She fought for her life and is now paralyzed. She is a young mother of 2 small children and loves the Summer season; so considering she was in the hospital the entire time, we decided to give her a Luau so she could enjoy it with her children and friends before it was officially over! These ladies came out and performed and were awesome! They went above and beyond for Valerie and to make our party feel complete. Before the night was over we felt as though we knew them personally and I'd recommend them to anyone! Thank you ladies for putting that smile on Valerie's face, that we were all praying to one day get to see again!" - Kimberly Greene, Boiling Springs SC
"I am so glad to have had the opportunity to experience a luau with you! I was so taken by the messages you shared with us and how truly this comes through your heart….you make dancing the hula so easy and fun! It was perfect for a perfect party! After the party, I was just in tears from the whole experience. … The dance seems to open hearts as that was how all of you felt to me. I know you have a mission and I so wish you the best in accomplishing that. Mahalo! May the Spirit of Hawaii always be with you!" - Katara Seifer, Hendersonville NC
"The first time Kaleo shared her Hawaiian stories and Hula with us, we fell completely in love with her. Her kind spirit and the gentleness of her words and thoughts just make our hearts rejoice. When we think of fun things to offer to our residents, she is one of the first persons who come to mind to have here again - because of that gentle spirit; and because after the show, there were smiles on everyone's faces. It was as if our spirit was lifted up."
- William Troxel • Appalachian Christian Village, Johnson City TN
"Deeply moving. Spiritual. Enchanting. These are a few adjectives that I would describe experiencing Kaleo Wheeler sharing her Hawaiian program on two different occasions at the First Congregational Church this past year. I, along, with others, found our eyes filling with tears during her dancing and singing the island cultural stories. To experience Kaleo is to experience delight and beauty. Don't miss an opportunity to see and hear her for yourself!" - Nancy Irving, 1st Congregational Church, Hendersonville NC
