School and Library Programs

Students don't have to visit the Pacific Islands to enjoy and learn about the Hawaiian "Aloha Spirit".
Kaleo Wheeler brings it to them right in their own school or library.

Hawaiian Storytelling Presentations - Living the Aloha Spirit

Students experience the warm sun of Hawai’i and its rich and beautiful culture as it has been passed down from ancient to modern times through their "talk story" and Hawaiian Hula. Hula is the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people and also called The Dance of the Heart.  This ancient form of storytelling, that is all about community and caring for each other,  is the living history of the Hawaiian people, telling their myths and legends, stories and values through songs, chants and music accompanied by dance.  The students will experience how one can "talk story" through descriptive hand gestures and rhythmic movements of your feet and hips.  Opportunities for interactive dialogue, sample  hula lessons and hands-on options for handling Hawaiian Instruments enhance the experience.

In having the opportunity to go back and reconnect with this ancient knowledge and way of living, we have a wonderful opportunity to learn how to go forward by looking deep within to our spiritual understanding and empowerment of ourselves.  It is a precious resource in our modern world that is punctuated with so much stress, chaos and uncertainty by helping us to remember through Love that we are all one people - one family, regardless of the country, culture or background that we originate from.  It helps us to maintain harmonious relations with our spirit/body/ mind, the sacred land and the human family to co-create the world and the life we want.
